Fundation Corner

What Items Should Be In Your Fundation Corner?

The following items should all be located within close proximity for optimum use during Fundations lessons.

Alphabet Wall Strip
• Keep this up for reference all day long.

Standard Sound Cards (displayed on a magnetic board or in a pocket chart.)
• Large Sound Cards, Word of the Day Cards and Trick Word Cards should be located in the same area as the Standard Sound Cards for easy access.

Suffix and Syllable Frames
• Should also be displayed near the Standard Sound Cards for word building activities as needed.

Large Writing Grid
• The Large Writing Grid should be displayed in an area where students can all see and reach it during letter formation and dictation activities.

1-2-3 Right/Let's Write poster

• Hang this poster where students can see it to reference particularly during letter formation and handwriting practice

Posters for student reference:
• These can be put up for the Fundations lesson and taken down again if needed. However, it would benefit K and 1 students especially to have the Letter Formation Poster visible all day for easy reference when they are writing.
• Teachers can use sticky notes to cover up untaught elements on posters until they come up in the Fundations curriculum. When first introducing these concepts, teachers can ‘reveal’ the new sounds and keywords, and so on, by peeling off the sticky notes.

Whiteboard or chart paper:
 • This is needed for Storytime and Letter Formations activities in Fundations Levels K and 1. It can also be used in all levels as a place where students can model written work.

Implementing Fundation

Fundation

In the Hazelwood School District, a Wilson trainer is working with four schools to assist them by modeling and providing feedback.   The four schools are:

1. Armstrong
2. Lusher
3. Grannemann
4. Brown

The goal for this blog is to provide a resource for all teachers implementing Fundation.  The best resource that we have to develop proficiency for implementing the program are teachers.  Teachers are our greatest resource.

During blogs, I will share insights that I have learned through my Wilson's training and teachers can share things that are working well in your classroom or we can problem solve together.  This is our year of implementation and we have different learning curves. Together we can achieve so much more for our students.

This is a general 'Look For' that should be in all classrooms
